During the business meeting, board members celebrated the district’s students of the month for October. The students are Everett Tucker, Sutton Tucker and Beckham Tucker (Central Cove Preschool); Tilly Ewell (Ashley Elementary School); Hemi Rae Tate (Davis Elementary School); Jason Hurley (Discovery Elementary School); Jay Holman (Eagle View Elementary School); Evelynn Diego (Lapoint Elementary School); Jace Shiner (Maeser Elementary School); Aspen Johnson (Naples Elementary School); Sarah Colt (Uintah Middle School); Leah Richens (Vernal Middle School); Naomi Santos (Uintah High School); and Brayden McKeachnie (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online).

 

Congratulations to these students and thank you to everyone who supports them!

 

2023 Hawk-a-Thon Results

Uintah Middle School held its annual Hawk-a-Thon on Oct. 5. More than 60 students swam, cycled, and ran in this year’s competition. UMS physical education and health teacher Christine Whetton announced the race winners and special award recipients this week. The race winners were Anna McKee and Ryker Madson (6th grade), Molly McKee and Easton Madson (7th grade), and Angela Jolley and Ollie Jordan (8th grade). Eason Madson finished the race the fastest with a time of 32 minutes 40 seconds.

 

Special awards went to Alysha Weaver and Kinley Rich (the Together Award for finishing hand in hand); Quinn Bigler (the Mr. Encouragement Award for cheering for other competitors and wishing them good luck); Alyssia Laub (the Perserverance Award); Nada Davies (the Thank You Girl Award for thanking all the volunteers); David Pierce (the Fix-It Award for putting his chain back on his bike to finish the race); Leena Sharp (the Gymnastics Award for doing a flip at the finish line); and Syrus Bullock (Best Costume).

 

Congratulations to all the competitors and the award winners!

 

Afterschool Strength Training Program

There will be an open house for students and parents interested in the new Afterschool Strength Training Program on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 from 2:40-3:40 p.m. in Building B behind Uintah Middle School.

 

The Afterschool Strength Training Program is for all Uintah School District 7th and 8th graders who are involved in school sports or who plan to play school sports.

 

Workout sessions will take place Monday-Thursday from 2:40-3:40 p.m. in Building B behind UMS. These will be structured, supervised workouts. The district is not providing transportation for participants.

No School Oct. 18-20

There will be no school Oct. 18-20. October 18 is a Parent-Teacher Conference Trade Day. October 19-20 is Fall Break. The district office will be closed Oct. 20. All USD schools and the district office will reopen on Monday, Oct. 23.

 

Celebrations

Congratulations to the eight Uintah High School student-athletes who have earned Academic All-State honors for the Fall Sports Season. Leah Christensen (Cross-Country); Charlee Gilroy (Tennis); Sadie Mansfield (Volleyball); Riley McCreary (Tennis); Stockton Ross (Golf); Ava Shiflett (Volleyball); Kate Slaugh (Cross-Country); and McKenzie White (Soccer) have each been recognized by the Utah High School Activities Association.

 

With more than 85,000 students participating in high school activities in Utah, the Academic All-State award is the most prestigious honor UHSAA presents to senior student-athletes.

 

Uintah High Theatre Tickets

Tickets are on sale now for Uintah High Theatre’s production of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. The show runs from Nov. 8-11 with all performances beginning at 7 p.m. For tickets or for season passes, visit https://uintah.ludus.com.

 

Weekend Events

The Uintah High Football Team will celebrate its seniors before tonight’s region game against the Payson Lions at Coach Belcher Stadium. The Senior Night program is scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at https://gofan.co. Channel V6 will also carry a live stream of the game.

 

The Uintah High Marching Band and Color Guard will be in action tomorrow, competing at the Davis Cup at Davis High School. The band and color guard finished 3rd at last weekend’s Wasatch Front Invitational at Riverton High School.
