This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - March 19, 2021This week the Uintah School District received approval from the state of Utah to end the school year one day earlier than originally planned. The final day of school for all students will be Thursday, May 27. There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 28.

Thursday, May 27, will follow the district's Minimum Day Schedule. There is no class on a Minimum School Day for half-day kindergarten students on the district's east side.

Ashley Valley Education Center will hold graduation on May 27. Uintah High will hold graduation on May 28. Both schools will release details about their respective commencement exercises once they are finalized.

The Uintah School Board has scheduled a special work session and special business meeting for March 25 at the district office. The work session will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 6 p.m.

Agendas for the meetings can be found at https://go.boarddocs.com/ut/uintah/Board.nsf/Public. The meetings will be streamed live on the district’s YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/-nBZNyntYgo.

The Vernal Utah’s Storytelling Festival will run March 25-27 and will be presented virtually, with stories from Dovie Thomason, Tim Lowry and Laura Deal. Links for stories for upper elementary grades and secondary students will be available for viewing. The stories will be 10 to 15 minutes each.

The Uintah School District is seeking artwork from current and former students for display in the new district office. We are looking for artwork in all 2D mediums. Pieces need to be at least 12”x18” and will be on loan to the district for 3 to 4 years before being rotated out.

All submitted artwork will be reviewed by the district's Art Selection Committee and artists will be notified of selections. Please contact district Arts Coordinator Lynna Kendall at [email protected] or 435-781-3100, ext. 1014, for more information.

Finally, a shout out to the Uintah High FFA chapter for an outstanding showing at state last week.

Chapter member Bradley Wilson was elected to serve as the 2021-22 Utah FFA Association State Treasurer. In the past 22 years, Uintah has had only two FFA students elected to state office. Uintah FFA was also selected as a Five Star Chapter and received a Superior Chapter Award. Several of its members earned individual recognition as well.

Stetson Rothlisberger was the Utah FFA Star Greenhand winner in Agribusiness. Denim Lister won the Utah FFA Proficiency Award in Swine Production and was the Utah FFA Star Farmer first runner-up. Kylee McKee won the Utah FFA Proficiency Award in Fruit Production and Alexanndria Veibell won the Utah FFA Proficiency Award in Nursery Operations. Aysia Massey was third runner-up for Utah FFA Star Greenhand in placement.

The Utah FFA Degree recipients from Uintah FFA were Jimmie McGuire, Brendon Gardiner, Denim Lister, McKenzie Lindsay and Cecilee Manning. The Utah FFA Degree is the second highest award that can be achieved in FFA, with less than 3 percent of all members earning it.

Congratulations to these students and their advisors!
