The Uintah Schools Foundation presents the 18th Annual Vernal Utah Storytelling Festival today and tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Vernal Middle School. Featured storytellers Adam Booth and Corinne Stavish will delight audiences with stories that fill the heart and mind. Tonight is Family Night. Four of Uintah High’s vocal music groups performed their festival concert on Wednesday night. Polyphony, Virsonum, Luminosa and SoVoce performed under the direction of Aaron Merryweather. Video of the concert can be found on the
Uintah High Choir Facebook page. The choirs’ spring concert is set for May 18 at the high school.
There will be a Uintah High School Band and Orchestra concert on Wednesday, March 30, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is free and tickets are available at

Glowing Artwork at Discovery Elementary
Students in Jill Hatch's art class at Discovery Elementary recently completed one of their favorite projects of the year. The students in grades 1 through 5 used fluorescent paint and neon oil pastels to create images of rainforest animals. The artwork glows under black lights, which Hatch has strung around her classroom, creating an effect that the kids and staff at Discovery love. Food Drive Continues at Lapoint Elementary
With one week left to go, the Lapoint Elementary Wolves are putting up big numbers in the Lapoint Community Food Drive. They’ve collected nearly 3,200 donated food items. The kindergartners have the highest average of donated items at 38 items per student, while the second graders continue to lead the overall grade total with nearly 900 items collected. The Lapoint Community Food Drive runs through the end of the month when all donations will be delivered to the local food pantry to help area families. Great work, Wolves!
Mr. Uintah/Miss Uintah Competition
Uintah High School will host the 31st annual Mr. Uintah and 18th annual Miss Uintah bodybuilding competition on Thursday, March 31, in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 and are available online at
www.uhsutes.com or at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. Contestants take the stage at 7 p.m.
Celebrations
Congratulations to Discovery Elementary third grader Miliakere Gata! Miliakere's
painting of flowers in a vase, created with acrylics on paper, was selected by administrators from around the district as the cover image for the invitation and program for this year's Employee Recognition Banquet. A reproduction of the painting will also hang in the district office.
Congratulations to Uintah High student-athletes Josh Speirs and Jordan Woodford! They received All-State Honorable Mention nods this week from the 5A coaches in boys and girls basketball, respectively.
Finally, good luck to the Uintah High baseball team, boys soccer team, softball team, and track and field team today and tomorrow. Baseball hosts the Hunter Wolverines today in their first home game of the season. First pitch for varsity is at 3 p.m. Boys soccer plays its first region game of the season today against the Tooele Buffaloes. The varsity game starts at 3:30 p.m. at Coach Belcher Stadium. Softball is on the road today for a region game against Cedar Valley, and Track and Field is in St. George this weekend for the Pine View Invitational. GO UTES!
