This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Jan. 29, 2021The district implemented the state's "Test to Stay" protocol at Uintah High this week due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the school. As part of the protocol, the district provided free COVID-19 rapid tests at the high school on Wednesday and Thursday while students attended classes remotely.

Individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days were exempt from testing. For all others testing was voluntary, but a negative test is required for students to return to class on Monday, Feb. 1, under the Test to Stay protocol.

Uintah High's total enrollment is 1,564. Over the two-day testing period, 814 students (52%) chose to be tested. Eleven positive cases were reported from those tests, for a positivity rate of 1.35%. These numbers do not include UHS students who were tested earlier this week under the Test to Play protocol or those who will be tested Monday morning as part of the same protocol.

Under the Test to Stay protocol, the high school's COVID-19 case count will reset to zero on Monday, Feb. 1. Uintah High students who tested positive this week and those who chose not to be tested will attend classes remotely until at least Monday, Feb. 8, when they can return to in-person learning so long as they do not have active symptoms of COVID-19.

TestUtah is providing free COVID-19 rapid tests at Uintah High until 3 p.m. today and tomorrow, Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m.

Anyone in our community can get tested at these FREE testing clinics, even if they do not have symptoms of COVID-19. The state Health Department is also encouraging anyone who might have symptoms, even mild ones, to come and get tested.

You can register online at https://coronavirus.utah.gov/utah-covid-19-testing-locations/. Online registration is encouraged to cut down on potential delays at the testing site but is not required.

If you cannot register online, you can register at the testing site. Identification is required. Test results will be emailed to those tested within 30 to 60 minutes after being tested.

The Uintah School Board sent a letter to all district employees on Wednesday. In the letter board members expressed their support and appreciation for the "commitment, dedication and perseverance" demonstrated by district employees "through so many changes and ups and downs."

"Your continued grit, innovation and adaptability are inspiring not only to our students, but also to our community," the board wrote. "Stay strong and healthy. We are behind you."

Finally, good luck to the Uintah High Swim Team as they compete at region in Tooele today and tomorrow!

Have a great weekend!
