Survey questions included skip logic; therefore, not all respondents were provided with all the questions.

The school board’s Jan. 30 work session on the Friday schedule will be an open meeting; however, the board does not plan to take public comment that night. The public will have the opportunity to provide comment during the board’s regularly scheduled business meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

The board has stated its intent to make a decision about the Friday schedule during the Feb. 8 business meeting.

Snow Removal at UHS

Uintah High School will remove snow this weekend from the student and staff parking lots, as well as the upper student parking lot. All vehicles need to be removed from these parking lots by 9 p.m. tonight. If your vehicle is in the way of snow removal, it may be towed. Those who need to be at the school this weekend should park on the east side of the school by the LDS Seminary building.

Robotics Team Competes in St. George

The Uintah High TSA/Robotics Team took six students and three robots to the St. George VEX Competition last weekend.

"No trophy, but we held up OK against some really experienced teams from specialized schools," Uintah TSA/Robotics advisor Joseph Woodard said. "All our teams did well on the independent skills event."

Elspeth Montague, Lois Lyman, Nataly Rosas, Sharon Rodriguez, Alfred Sheffer, and Ann John competed for the Utes. Another 10 students are working on robots but weren’t able to go to the St. George Competition, Woodard said. The team's next competition is in Price on Feb 18.

UHS DECA Competition

The Uintah High DECA Chapter held its first competition on Thursday at UBTECH in Vernal. The competition was organized by UHS DECA members Masen Briggs, Gabe Elison and Nathan Larsen as their project for the upcoming State DECA Competition. Their goal is to help UHS DECA members practice their role-play skills and receive feedback from members of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, who served as judges for Thursday’s competition.

Thirty-six Uintah High DECA members competed in the event, which is expected to take place annually. The winners were:

Individual Role Play (Entrepreneurship) – Alexa McKee, 1st place; Beka Wagner, 2nd place; and Isaac Manwaring, 3rd place.

Individual Role Play (Quick Serve) – Lizzie Richards, 1st place; Chase Harrison, 2nd place; and KayLynn Ward, 3rd place.

Individual Role Play (Human Resources) – Timi Sainsbury, 1st place; Lizzie Abrams, 2nd place; and Maddix Glines, 3rd place.

Team Role Play (Travel & Tourism) – Hailey Rasmussen and Chase Harrison, 1st place; Isaac Manwaring and Luke Schmidt, 2nd place; and Lizzie Abrams and Daizy Wilson, 3rd place.

Team Role (Sports and Entertainment Marketing) – Karen White and Cailynn Ulwelling, 1st place; Hallie Smith and Lillie Harding, 2nd place; and Grant Moulton and Artur Darii, 3rd place.

Team Role Play (Buying and Merchandising) – Chase Harrison and Mariah Spainhower, 1st place; Slade Bowden and Everett Morton, 2nd place; and Shane Kolkman and KayLynn Ward, 3rd place.

Upcoming Events

The Uintah High Boys Wrestling Team and Uintah High Girls Wrestling Team take on the Wasatch Wasps tonight in their final home duals of the season. Tickets are available at www.uhsutes.com under the Tickets tab or you can watch a live stream provided by the UHS Student Broadcasting Team on Channel V6 at www.channelv6.com.

The JV boys wrestling matches start at 5 p.m., followed by girls matches at 6 p.m., and varsity boys matches at 7 p.m. The boys team will celebrate their seniors after the varsity matches tonight. The girls team celebrated Senior Night on Wednesday. They are headed to Westlake High School tomorrow for the Utah Girls Dual State Championships.

The Uintah High Boys Basketball Team plays at Hillcrest High today. Sophomores play at 3:30 p.m., followed by the freshman and JV games at 5:15 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.

The Uintah U’ettes are headed to Cedar Valley High School for this weekend’s Region competition.

Uintah High junior Breanna Helm is performing tomorrow with the All-State Band at Abravanel Hall. Helm will play tuba in the top band, according to Uintah High Band Director Brian Gibson. The All-State Band Concert begins at 7 p.m.
