This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Jan. 14, 2022The Uintah School Board held its work session and business meeting Wednesday. The audio recording of the work session can be found HERE. The audio recording of the business meeting can be found HERE. Video of both meetings can be found on the district’s YouTube channel.

During its business meeting, the board celebrated the district’s students of the month for January. The students of the month for January are McKenzie Taylor (Central Cove), Madeline Horrocks (Ashley Elementary), Bailey McCurdy (Davis Elementary), Rhandi Zufelt (Discovery Elementary), Kaytlin Uresk (Eagle View Elementary), Haleigh Checora (Lapoint Elementary), Payton Boykin (Maeser Elementary), Andree Rios (Naples Elementary), Bree Collins (Uintah Middle School), Russell Koons (Vernal Middle School), Piper Runnels (Uintah High School), and Logan Pye (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online).

Congratulations to these outstanding students and to everyone who supports them!

On Thursday, Uintah High School reported 34 confirmed student cases of COVID-19 since classes resumed Jan. 3. This put the high school at the Test-to-Stay threshold established by state law.

Before the district could fully initiate the Test-to-Stay process, state leaders suspended the requirement. Instead, Friday’s classes at the high school were moved online, with students returning to in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 18, following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

The district will continue to closely monitor confirmed case counts at the high school. If the numbers continue to increase, the Uintah School Board may decide to temporarily move the high school to online learning in keeping with Utah law and the new guidance provided by state leaders. Congratulations to the Uintah High U’ettes on their 4th place overall finish at last weekend’s Bountiful Invitational. The U’ettes won the Hip Hop division, placed 3rd in Dance, 4th in Military, and 6th in Show.

In the individual drill down competition, Dance Captain Ashley Glazier placed 3rd. Friday night’s solo competition featured more than 50 dancers in all the 5A categories. Addisyn Yack placed 3rd in Contemporary and 4th in Lyrical. Alexa McKee placed 5th in the Jazz category and Kaylyn Sizemore placed just out of the top 5 in the Lyrical division.

The U’ettes are back in action this weekend, competing at the Rocky Mountain Drill Competition at Alta High School. Good luck!

Also, congratulations to the Uintah High boys and girls wrestling teams. Both teams won the Tournament of Champions (TOC) in Vernal last weekend. Each team also clinched a region title Thursday night with their wins over the Stansbury Stallions.

For the girls team, Chanley Green, Kendra Atwood, and Tessa Barton finished first in their respective weight classes at the TOC. For the boys, Dillon Dick and Gage Howard finished first in their respective weight classes at the TOC. The girls are wrestling at the Redhawks Rumble in Bountiful this weekend, while the boys are wrestling at the Rockwell Rumble in Salt Lake City. Good luck to both teams!

As a reminder, there is no school Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The district office will also be closed for the holiday. No curbside meals will be served Monday. Curbside meal service will resume on Tuesday.
