The Uintah School Board met Wednesday at Eagle View Elementary School for its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting. The board also held its semi-annual Impact Aid meeting.

During Wednesday night's business meeting, board members celebrated the district's students of the month for March 2023. The students are Sage Olsen (Central Cove Preschool); Hunter Draper (Ashley Elementary); Avaya Batty (Davis Elementary); Michael Madan (Discovery Elementary); Sayma Juarez Carranza (Eagle View Elementary); Jorja Taveapont (Lapoint Elementary); Ali Aycock (Maeser Elementary); Titus Evans (Naples Elementary); Kaysen Gudmundsen (Uintah Middle School); Lucas Caldwell (Vernal Middle School); Blake Holmes (Uintah High School); and Christina Kelly (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online). 

 

Congratulations to these outstanding students and to everyone who supports them! 

School Fees for 2023-24

The school board approved the school fee schedule for the 2023-2024 school year during Wednesday’s business meeting. Information about school fees for the current year and for next year can be found at https://www.uintah.net/for_parents_/school_fee_info.   

 

Special Board Meeting 

The school board will hold a special business meeting on Monday, March 13, at the district office in Naples at 5:30 p.m. The agenda will be posted on BoardDocs under the School Board tab on the district website. The only item on the agenda is the approval of the salaries for the superintendent and business administrator. SpongeBob the Musical

Uintah High Theatre’s production of SpongeBob the Musical ends its wildly successful run tomorrow night. Tickets are still available for tonight and tomorrow night’s performances at uintah.ludus.com. Both performances start at 7 p.m.


UHS Choir Concert 
Uintah High School’s choirs will perform their festival concert – That’s Latin to Me! – on Wednesday, March 15, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is free. The featured choirs are Polyphony, Luminosa, Virsonium and SoVoce. The concert will be streamed live on the Uintah High Choir Facebook page for those who cannot attend in person. 

 

Vernal Utah Storytelling Festival 

The Uintah Schools Foundation will present the 19th Annual Vernal Utah Storytelling Festival on March 20-21 at 7 p.m. in Vernal Middle School auditorium with a different show each night. Adam Booth and Megan Hicks are this year’s featured storytellers. For more information and to buy tickets, visit www.vernalutahstorytelling.com

 

Central Cove Town Hall Meetings 

The district is holding a pair of town hall meetings to give the public an opportunity to learn more about the proposed construction of a new building for Central Cove Preschool. Representatives from the school district, Utah State University and VCBO Architecture will be on hand to present information and answer questions.

 

Both town hall meetings will be held on Monday, March 27. The first meeting will take place in the Naples Elementary media center from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The second meeting will take place in the Maeser Elementary media center from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The public is welcome to attend one or both meetings. The same information will be presented at each meeting. 

 

Celebrations Schools around the district have announced their Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year. Here are the honorees who were announced this week: Teacher of Year: Heidi Hunt (Ashley Elementary), RoseAnna Batty (Maeser Elementary), Robert Bird (Uintah Middle School), and Brandie Schwarz (Vernal Middle School). Classified Employee of the Year: Jodie Mapp (Ashley Elementary), Shanda Thomas (Maeser Elementary), Kristi Powell (Uintah Middle School), and ShaNae Wood (Vernal Middle School). 

Each school’s Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year will be considered for district Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year. Those awards will be announced in April. 

 

Congratulations to Uintah Middle School teacher Quade Lance on being selected by the Uintah Schools Foundation for its Excellence in Teaching Award! He was nominated for the award by his students. The foundation will honor him on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the district office. 

 

Uintah High School's 10 Sterling Scholars competed Monday against their peers from 18 other schools at the Northeast Region Sterling Scholar Competition held at Utah Valley University. Uintah High’s EmmaLyn Day was named the Northeast Region Sterling Scholar in Trades and Technical Education. Four other Utes earned regional runner-up honors: Tori Barrus (Social Science), Anya Brown (English), Alec Rimmasch III (Mathematics), and Gentry Yeaman (Visual Arts). Congratulations to EmmaLyn, Tori, Anya, Alec and Gentry! 

 

Uintah High FBLA competed against some stacked competition at the State Leadership Conference in Layton this week. Slade Bowden qualified for Nationals by placing 3rd in Advertising. Taylor Kurtz placed 8th in Business Ethics and Nataly Rosas Franco placed 9th Coding & Programming. Slade will compete in Advertising at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, at the end of June. 

The Region Instrumental Music Solo and Ensemble Festival was held Thursday at Hillcrest High School. Thirty-two musicians from Uintah High competed and received ratings of Good to Excellent. Three UHS groups received Superior ratings, and three students qualified for State – the viola duet of Isabella Atherton and Ryanna Baldwin, and tuba soloist Breanna Helm. The state competition is April 29. 

 

Weekend Events 

Good luck to the Uintah High Baseball and Uintah High Boys Tennis teams this weekend. Both teams are competing at tournaments in St. George. GO UTES!
