This is the image for the news article titled USD announces changes due to governor's ordersIn response to the orders announced Sunday by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and the Utah Department of Health, the Uintah School District is taking the following steps to fully comply:

1. All extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, etc.) are postponed until Nov. 23. This includes tryouts for winter sports and practices at Uintah High School, Uintah Middle School and Vernal Middle School. The Utah High School Activities Association will provide schools with guidance on winter sports in the coming days.

2. Anything that falls outside of students going to their regular classes is postponed until Nov. 23. Students should continue to seek academic help from their teachers before and after school based on the protocols established by their respective schools.

3. Coaches and advisors may conduct virtual activities as approved by school administration, as long as students are participating separately and individually from their homes.

4. All school assemblies, concerts or other mass gatherings are postponed until Nov. 23. There will be no community use of district facilities until further notice.

5. The Uintah School Board will hold its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively. The meetings will be held in the auditorium at Vernal Middle School to allow for physical distancing and will also be streamed live at https://youtu.be/9tpZR25DdLk.

Parents and community members can provide input during the meetings by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7PZC8JP.

Masks are required for those who choose to attend the meetings in person and physical distancing should be practiced.

The Parent Night scheduled for Nov. 19 at Uintah Middle School will now be an online presentation only. There will be no in-person attendance. A link to the livestream will be provided next week.

“Keeping our schools open is important for our kids and our community, and I believe that extracurricular sports, clubs and activities are a critical component of education,” Uintah Schools Superintendent Rick Woodford said.

“I am hopeful that the protocols the state has implemented for the next two weeks will put us in a better position to keep our schools open and allow our students to resume their extracurricular activities,” the superintendent said.
