One of the projects to receive preliminary approval was a proposed teen center at Uintah High School. No School Monday
As a reminder, there is no school for USD students on Monday, Feb. 26. It is a professional development day for school staff. The district office will be open. Third trimester begins Tuesday, Feb. 27.

State of the District
The Uintah Schools Foundation will host its annual State of the District event on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 8 a.m. at the Uintah Conference Center in Vernal.

Superintendent Rick Woodford is the keynote speaker. The foundation will also recognize the recipients of its Teachers in Excellence Award and the Uintah High School Sterling Scholars. There will be musical performances as well by the Uintah High Jazz Band, the Uintah High Choir, and the combined elementary school choir.

Opening Night for Something Rotten!
Opening night for Uintah High Theatre’s production of Something Rotten! is Friday, March 1. Set in 1595, the story follows the Bottom brothers – Nick and Nigel – who struggle to find success in the theatrical world as they compete with the wild popularity of their contemporary William Shakespeare. (Fun fact: There are 20 musicals referenced in the 8-minute song “A Musical.”) Something Rotten! runs March 1-2; March 4-5; and March 7-9. Celebrations
Congratulations to the Uintah High Boys Wrestling Team on earning their fourth consecutive state title last week in Orem! Ethan Sharp, Rykan Hacking, and Brody Rhoades each earned their first individual state titles in their respective classifications. Michael Alexander earned his third individual state title and was named 4A Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weights. Coach Phillip Keddy was selected by his peers as the 4A Coach of the Year.

Congratulations as well the four members of the Uintah High Girls Wrestling Team who earned individual state titles last week in Orem. Kenna McCauley, Sadie Rhoades and Sydnie Dick each earned their first individual state titles in their respective classifications. Chanley Green earned her third individual state title. The girls team finished the season third in 4A.

Congratulations also go out to the members of the Uintah High Boys Swim Team who medaled at the state meet at BYU last week. Wyatt Kiever, Jaten Barraclough, Paul Buschkowsky and Jagger Morton set a school record in the 400 Freestyle Relay on their way to a 6th place finish at state. Morton also broke his own record in the 200 Freestyle for a 4th place finish at state and finished 2nd in the 100 Butterfly. Barraclough finished 7th in the 100 Butterfly. The Utes’ 200 Medley Relay Team of Morton, Barraclough, Kiever and Cullen Thomas finished 4th at state.

Morton ended the season with five school records in individual events and two school records as a member of Uintah’s 400 Freestyle and 200 Medley Relay teams. Kiever and Barraclough also finish the season with two school records each as members of the 400 Freestyle and 200 Medley Relay teams.

Weekend Events
The Uintah High Cheer Team will hold its year-end Showcase tonight at 7 p.m. in the Main Gym. Admission is free; however, the team is collecting donations of non-perishable items for the Ashley Valley Food Pantry. Come out and support the cheerleaders as they perform for the last time as a team!

Uintah High Track and Field will hold two clinics at the Uintah Training Center (UTC) tomorrow. The clinic for high school students will take place from 9-11 a.m., followed by the clinic for middle school students from 1-2:30 p.m. Come try some events you would like to learn, including sprints, hurdles, high jump, shot put, javelin and discus.
