Unpaid Student Meal Charges

It is the desire of Uintah School District to provide healthy meals to children during the school day.  In order to serve healthy, high-quality meals to all children, we must be financially secure.  You play a key role in this effort, and are responsible for purchases made by your child in our school cafeterias.  If your child’s school meal account reaches a balance of less than zero, we will attempt to collect the owed amount in a variety of ways.  We may verbally remind students that lunch money is owed, put a smiley face stamp on a student’s hand, contact parents through automated phone calls and email, personally try to reach parents by phone, text and/or email, and by sending letters home with students or through the mail.  Because we are fortunate to have generous people in our community who sometimes donate money to help families in need pay for school meals, we are not denying meal service to any children at this time.

If you would like to make a donation to help children who are in need purchase school meals, please contact the Uintah School District Child Nutrition Office at 781-3185.

Nutrition / Physical Wellness Policy

Triennial Assessment:

A school wellness policy is a written document that guides a school district’s efforts to establish a school environment which promotes student health. Research shows that students who are physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially healthy during and after the school day have increased academic success.  The federal Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA) requires that every school district participating in the National School Lunch Program conduct an assessment of the district’s compliance, and progress made, in attaining the goals of the wellness policy at least once every 3 years. Results of the most recent assessment are as follows:

April, 27, 2021

  1. The USD Wellness Policy Committee met to review the district’s Nutrition/Physical Wellness policy, (09.0250).  After reviewing the policy, it was suggested that some minor changes be made to improve the policy and bring the policy into compliance with new state code. The suggested changes will be presented the USD School Board.  Once approved, the revised policy will be posted on the district’s website.

  2. The committee also reviewed Nutrition/Physical Wellness Policy Implementation Reports, which were submitted by USD schools. The committee is happy to report that our district appears to be compliant with most requirements of the USD Nutrition/Physical Wellness Policy.  Areas that need improvement are as follows:
    1. Two elementary schools reported that they found it necessary to reduce student lunch periods to less that 30 minutes due to covid-19 mitigation.
    2. At Uintah High School, at least one vending machine is dispensing some items that do not meet Smart Snacks rules.
    3. New Utah Core Standards for Health Education were introduced shortly before the covid-19 pandemic started.  A committee is currently working on implementing the new core standards in our schools.   It is a work in progress.

If food or beverages are provided, but not sold, to students during the school day, (e.g., in classroom parties, classroom snacks, or other foods given as incentives), efforts shall be made to provide foods and beverages which promote good health.
