"This is a great opportunity for both Mrs. Shipton and Mrs. Nerdin to further develop their already outstanding leadership abilities and help both schools continue to grow," Uintah Schools Superintendent Rick Woodford said.

The superintendent began an evaluation of leadership around the district in March. Following his evaluation, he proposed options to best leverage leadership growth and help the district’s schools become better. After much collaboration and consideration, Principal Shipton and Principal Nerdin voluntarily accepted the opportunity to transfer into their new assignments.

“I have loved every minute at Uintah High School,” Principal Shipton said. “It has been great to be a part of the journey that has made UHS what it is today. I look forward to this new opportunity to serve the students and staff at Uintah Middle School. UMS has an amazing staff, and I am fortunate to join them next year.”

Principal Shipton has been the principal at Uintah High for four years. Prior to that she served as assistant principal at UHS for 10 years and a teacher at UHS for 20 years.

Principal Nerdin has been the principal at UMS for four years. Prior to that she served as vice principal at Uintah High for two years, worked as an instructional coach for four years, was a secondary science teacher for six years, and taught at the elementary level for three years.

“It has been a joy and privilege to work with the students and staff at Uintah Middle School! I’m excited for the opportunity to join the dedicated educators at UHS as we continue to provide our students with high-quality instruction that focuses on academic excellence and success in their extracurricular pursuits,” Principal Nerdin said.

Although the change in leadership at UHS and UMS will not officially take place until Aug. 1, Principal Shipton and Principal Nerdin have already begun working together to ensure a smooth transition.

“Change can be difficult, but it provides those involved with an opportunity to grow,” Superintendent Woodford said. “In education, we are all about learning and growth. Mrs. Shipton and Mrs. Nerdin are both talented school leaders committed to improving results for our students. I believe both principals and both schools will benefit and become better with this change.”
