As part of our ongoing Advisory service projects, Mrs. Bastian's class recently created posters to help shelter pets find loving homes. These posters were displayed during Parent-Teacher Conferences and will stay up around the school to keep spreading the word about these adoptable pets. We’re proud of our students for making a difference in our community!

Congratulations to Our January Students of the Month! Here are just a few of the wonderful things teachers have to say about them: Ethan Cox, 8th Grade: Ethan has made great strides this term and truly stepped up. Teachers see the wheels turning in his head as he puts so much thought into every answer he submits. Ethan is well-behaved, smart, and kind. He deserves to represent the UMS 8th grade as Student of the Month! Maggie Mansfield, 7th Grade: Maggie is exceptional. She is committed to learning and works hard to reach her goals, even when it’s difficult. Maggie excels both in the classroom and on the court. Her strong work ethic and positive attitude inspire her team to be better through her example. Oakley Gehring, 6th Grade: Oakley is a great example of what it means to be a UMS hawk on the rise. Her confidence and dedication to learning has grown so much since the beginning of the year. Oakley is kind, a good friend, and is always willing to help others. She is a delight to have in class. We are so proud of you all! Keep RISE-ing, Hawks!

Our Hawks are making a difference! Every advisory class is working on meaningful service projects, and the kindness keeps spreading. Mrs. Jones' class created heartfelt cards and delivered cozy socks to the Memory Care Unit at the Uintah Care Center. The residents loved the warm gestures—both the cards and the footies! Great job, Hawks!

We had 73 incredible participants at the UMS Science Fair, representing 6th, 7th, and 8th grade with a huge variety of projects—everything from water filters to what happens when you get dizzy, clean water to germs and bacteria! It was such a fun day, and we’re SO proud of all the Hawks who showed off their creativity, curiosity, and hard work. Way to go, scientists!

Mr. Barlow’s class dissected frogs this week to compare body systems! They discovered frogs breathe through their skin and have a 3-chambered heart, while humans have lungs and a 4-chambered heart. Learning in action!

The Uintah School Board has recently amended and added to the district's strategic plan, which now includes a service learning initiative for all schools. At Uintah Middle School, we are proud to be in our third year with our Service Learning class, which has helped foster a culture of service in our school. To build on this initiative, our Advisory classes are planning and executing service projects both within the school and throughout the community. A great example of this is a friendly competition hosted by Mr. Coonis’s class in collaboration with our neighbors at VMS. The Great Middle School Food Fight begins next week, on October 28th. We are excited to see all the amazing contributions our students and staff will make this year. At Uintah Middle School, we continue to RISE—demonstrating Respect, Integrity, Service, and Empathy—as we engage in service and make a lasting impact in our school and community. Go Hawks!

Hawks RISE by lifting others This year for Red Ribbon Week, we added Kindness Challenges to help students recognize acts of kindness and service. Students are writing down ways others have been kind to them or how they’ve shown kindness to others, then posting them in the commons. Our goal is to build a school culture that’s positive and kind. Great job, Hawks, for showing us what kindness looks like!

Hawks Rise
Hawks are soaring with gratitude! This month, our entire school has been practicing gratitude through the 21-Day Gratitude Challenge. Students in advisory classes wrote one thing they’re thankful for on paper strips, creating gratitude chains. Student Council joined the fun by linking all the chains together into one giant 115-foot display, now hanging proudly in our commons. Gratitude helps us RISE to new heights! Way to go Hawks!

We wrapped up the trimester with an incredible assembly, on November 26th, celebrating our amazing students and their accomplishments! A big thank you to Reffel Kanip for sharing an inspiring message about unity and school spirit, along with the Ute legend of the moon. Thank you to our student council and service learning class for organizing fun grade level games. 8th grade took the win this time! The coveted "bling" will hang proudly in Mr. Baldwin's room until the next assembly. We also wrapped up The Great Middle School Food Fight against VMS, collecting an impressive 1,250 lbs of food for our local pantry! While we raised 2.2 lbs per student to their 1.7 lbs per student, they still edged out the win. Mr. Gorski and Mrs. Blunt had a blast shaving Mr. Coonis’s head as part of the deal. Don’t worry—we’ll catch you next year! Our students are what make Hawk spirit RISE—you inspire us every day to be our best. Keep soaring, Hawks!
