The Uintah School Board held a regularly scheduled work session and business meeting at the district office Wednesday night. During the business meeting, the board celebrated the district’s Students of the Month for September: Boyd Workman (Central Cove Early Learning Center), Rayleigh Lance (Ashley Elementary), Linkin Beacham (Davis Elementary), Knoxlee Wagner (Discovery Elementary), Ruby Murray (Eagle View Elementary), Seeley Stubbs (Lapoint Elementary), Blaiklee Deets (Maeser Elementary), Remi Keddy (Naples Elementary), Rawley McNaughtan (Uintah Middle School), Will Haws (Vernal Middle School), Jamin Gandhi (Uintah High School), and Hayzlyn Wilson (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online).

Electronic Devices Policy
During Wednesday night’s business meeting, the school board also voted 4-1 to leave the existing policy for Electronic Devices in Public Schools (Policy 007.0250) unchanged for the current school year. The policy includes a bell-to-bell ban on the use of student cellphones and other personal electronic devices in elementary schools, while prohibiting use in secondary schools only during classes and other instructional time. Students in grades 6 through 12 can still use their phones and electronic devices on campus before school, during passing time and lunch, and after school. The policy, initially adopted in 2025, was revisited and found to meet the requirements of Senate Bill 69, which was signed into law during the 2026 Utah legislative session. The procedure for implementing the policy can be found in each school’s student handbook.
The Drowsy Chaperone – Tickets on Sale
Tickets are on sale now for the Uintah High Theatre production of The Drowsy Chaperone. The show is about a middle-aged, asocial musical theater fan who, feeling "blue", decides to play a record of his favorite musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone” for the audience. As the record plays, the show — a parody of 1920s American musical comedy — comes to life onstage, with the man wryly commenting on the music, story, and actors. The fictional musical in the recording features the intrigues of an about-to-be-wed oil tycoon and a Broadway starlet. The show runs Oct. 23-24, Oct. 26-27, and Oct. 29-30 in the UHS auditorium. Celebrations
Congratulations to a pair of Uintah High teachers who have earned some well-deserved recognition! UHS English teacher Amanda Muffler will be honored tonight in Sandy as one of 10 Utah Education Association Excellence in Education Award winners. Muffler is being recognized for her instructional innovation, educational leadership, and advocacy for students. UHS art teacher Chris Manwaring is also a recent award recipient. His painting “The Last Slice of Summer” was named Best of Show at the American Impressionist Society’s 27th Annual National Juried Exhibition. Judge Calvin Liang praised Manwaring’s “command of shape, color, value, and edges” as exceptional and called the painting “a unified, visually rich composition."
UHS Homecoming Events
The Uintah High Homecoming Parade starts today at 2 p.m. The parade route will follow US-40 from 700 West to 300 East. The community is enthusiastically encouraged to attend.
The Uintah High Homecoming Game is tonight at Coach Belcher Stadium, where the Utes will take on the Deer Creek High Riverhawks. This is a BLACKOUT game, with fans encouraged to wear black to show their support for the Utes!
Tailgating kicks off the festivities at 5 p.m. in the stadium parking lot, with FREE food, games, and prizes for all fans. Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at https://gofan.co or at the gate, where cash and card are accepted.
Uintah High Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Candace Workman Triggas will be honored on the field at 6:45 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live at www.channelv6.com for those who can’t make it in person.
The Homecoming Dance is set for Saturday from 8-10 p.m. at the Uintah Training Center (UTC). The theme is Spider-Man. No masks are allowed at the dance. Students must have their UHS activity card and a ticket to enter. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the UHS Finance Office or by using the QR code on the flyers in the high school. No tickets will be sold at the door.
