Tonight is Opening Night for Uintah High Theatre’s production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Set 19 years after Hogwarts, the play follows Harry’s son, Albus, who struggles with his family legacy and befriends Scorpius Malfoy. When the boys use a Time-Turner to change the past, they create dangerous alternate realities and must work together to set things right.

The play will run Oct. 24-25 and Oct. 27-30 in the UHS Auditorium, with showtimes at 7 p.m. each night. For tickets, visit uintah.ludus.com.

UHS Sterling Scholars Named

Uintah High has selected its Sterling Scholars for 2025-2026. The following students will compete in the Northeast Region Sterling Scholar contest in the spring: Evan Haslem (Business and Marketing), Tobias Faucher (Computer Technology), Rickell Zufelt (Dance), Ella Henline (Family and Consumer Sciences), Addie Pettit (General Scholarship), Hailey Rasmussen (Instrumental Music), Rykan Hacking (Mathematics), Karston Keel (Science), Jackson Checketts (Skilled and Technical Sciences Education), Cayden Bristol (Social Science), Mae Coonradt (Speech/Theatre Arts/Debate), Peyton Edwards (Visual Arts), Lauren McKee (Vocal Performance), and Daron Ross (World Languages).

These students will be recognized locally on Feb. 23 during a program at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium.

Celebrations

Uintah High FFA competed in the Snow College Utah FFA Career Development Events on Oct. 10. The competition involved 97 of Utah’s 100 FFA chapters and over 2,000 FFA members from across the state.

Uintah’s Agronomy Team won the state contest! In the Agronomy event, team members complete individual practicums involving a written test, knowledge in evaluating crop quality, identification various weed plants, crop plants, seeds and soils, insects, plant diseases, and nutrient deficiencies/disorders in crops. Team members Sidney Anderson, Rope Williams, Conner McKee and Konner Hancock will represent Utah in the national contest at the 2026 FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

The Uintah FFA Soils/Land Evaluation team placed third at Snow College. Team members Sadie Slaugh, Paige Liebhardt, Melody Liebhardt and Brinslee Thomas will compete at the National Soils/Land Evaluation Contest in Oklahoma in May.

Uintah’s Veterinary Sciences Team of Daisy Liebhardt, Jordan Thronton, Bragen Searle, Kimber Farnsworth and Abbie Olsen placed 6th at Snow College. Daisy Liebhardt was the 7th high individual in the vet contest. Taryn Kidd from Uintah FFA’s Floriculture Team was 5th high individual in that event out of over 190 competitors. In Livestock Evaluation, Uintah’s Josie Wilkins placed 12th high individual in over 200 competitors.

ā€œWe are very proud of our students,ā€ Uintah FFA advisors Quay Walker and David Wilson said. ā€œThey have worked hard. It’s rewarding that because of hard work and dedication our teams did well. We express our appreciation to the students’ parents and supporters for their help.ā€

Uintah High’s DECA chapter was also in action on Oct. 10, competing at the Utah Valley University Business and Marketing Competition, which featured over 600 students across eight competitive categories. The chapter earned top honors in two of the eight events:

  • 1st Place – Product Design: Hyrum Raymond and Bridger Christensen

  • 2nd Place – Social Media: Adelade Colovich, Eliza Averett, Trey McKeachnie, and Evan Haslem

The chapter did well at this week’s Utah State Aggie Invitational in Logan, too. Eleven Utes placed in the Top 3 in their respective categories.

    • Buying & Merchandising: Section A - Eliza Averett & Ava Haslem - 3rd Place; Section B - Bridger Christensen & Hyrum Raymond - 1st place; Section C - Adelade Colovich & Treyson McKeachnie - 1st place.

    • Hospitality Services: Section B - Ellie Anderson & Ashlynn Nielson - 2nd place

  • Individual Event

    • Business Finance: Section A - Josh Hill - 2nd place; Section B - Daniel Johnson - 3rd place

    • Entrepreneurship: Section B - Jaevry Elison - 2nd place

Weekend Events

The Uintah High Football Team is on the road tonight, taking on the Mountain Crest Mustangs in the 1st round of the 4A State Playoffs. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Mountain Crest High Hudl Fan website.

The Uintah High Marching Band and Color Guard are taking their winning show on the road again tomorrow. They are scheduled to take the field at American Fork High School at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday to perform for the judges at the Mt. Timpanogos Invitational.
