Uintah High School is excited to invite the community to celebrate the opening of its new Teen Center!
Location: Uintah High School, Room V106
Date: Friday, Aug. 29
Time: Noon ā 1:30 p.m.
The Teen Center is a welcoming space designed to support all Uintah High students. It includes:
A food pantry stocked with nutritious snacks and meals
Washers and dryers
Two bathrooms with private showers
Semi-private study rooms for individual work
Comfortable spaces for study groups and student meetings
āAs we envision it, the Uintah High Teen Center will support all UHS students in various aspects of their lives," Uintah School District Support Services Director Mindy Merrell said. "This initiative underscores our commitment to the safety and well-being of our students.ā
The Teen Center will be staffed full-time and will be open before, during and after school. It will serve students who are experiencing homelessness with access to laundry facilities, showers, and meals ā while also offering all students a safe space to study, meet, and network.
Why it matters:
Nearly two dozen Uintah School District students experienced homelessness last school year.
About 14% of Uintah County youth are food insecure, according to the USU Hunger Solutions Institute.
The center will also create opportunities to partner with state agencies and local businesses, helping students build skills for the future, from preparing for job interviews to learning how to enter the workforce with confidence.
This project has been made possible through the hard work of district and UHS employees, the commitment of the Uintah School Board, and strong community and state support, including:
$250,000 in grant funding from the state of Utah
$40,000 in matching funds from The Policy Project
$19,000 donated by the UHS Class of 1969 to furnish study rooms
VCBO Architecture waiving a portion of its fees
Join us as we cut the ribbon and open the doors for this important new resource for Uintah High students!
