The Uintah School Board held a regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday at the district office in Naples. A video recording of the work session and business meeting can be found on the district’s YouTube channel.

During the business meeting, the board celebrated the district’s Students of the Month. The district's Students of the Month for May 2025 are Landen Timothy (Central Cove Preschool); Colby Betts (Ashley Elementary); Finlee Dudley (Davis Elementary); Anistyn Robinson (Discovery Elementary); Keithalynn Blackhair (Eagle View Elementary); Oakley Densley (Lapoint Elementary); Lucy Batty (Maeser Elementary); Asher Kay (Naples Elementary); DC Taveapont (Uintah Middle School); Jessie Winsor (Vernal Middle School); Tayla Serrano (Uintah High School); Kayla Royer (Ashley Valley Education Center/Uintah Online).

 

The board also celebrated:

 

  • Davis Elementary media specialist Chalyce Johnson, who was recently named the Library Paraprofessional of the Year for the state of Utah by the Utah School Library Association.

  • Bus driver Becky Valdez, who was recently named the Utah School Employee Association’s Outstanding Education Support Professional of the Year in Transportation.

  • Uintah High FFA member Drew Huber, who was the 1st High Individual in Ag Mechanics at the state FFA competition, earning a $7,500 scholarship.

  • The Uintah High Student Council, whose members earned their second consecutive Gold Council of Excellence Award from the National Association of Student Councils.

  • The Uintah High DECA chapter, which earned Chapter of the Year honors for the state of Utah.

Congratulations to everyone who was celebrated by the board and thanks to all who support them!

 

Last Day of School

Thursday, May 22, is the last day of the 2024-2025 school year. It is a Minimum School Day, which means the following schedule will be in effect:

 

  • Uintah High School – 7:40 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

  • Uintah Middle School – 7:40 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.

  • Vernal Middle School – 7:45 a.m. to 11:55 a.m.

  • Eagle View Elementary – 7:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

  • Lapoint Elementary – 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

  • Ashley, Davis, Discovery, Maeser and Naples – 8:30 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

If you have questions about this schedule, please contact your child’s school.

 

AVEC & UHS Graduations

Ashley Valley Education Center will hold its drive-in graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 on Thursday, May 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Graduation will be held in the AVEC parking lot.

 

Uintah High School will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 at Coach Belcher Stadium on Friday, May 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Graduates need to be at the Uintah Training Center (UTC) at 4:30 p.m. to begin lining up for the processional to the stadium. No tickets are required.

 

Utah Sun Bucks Program

The Utah Sun Bucks program is getting ready to start for the summer. Sun Bucks, also called Summer EBT, can help families buy food during the summer when schools are closed. Families get $120 per eligible school-age child.

 

Any Utah child in grades K-12 for the 2024-25 school year who currently receives free or reduced-price meals will automatically receive this benefit. No application is needed.

USD Budget Hearing

The Uintah School District will hold a public hearing for the purpose of adopting the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year and the final amended budget for the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday, June 4. The public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the district office, located at 826 S. 1500 East in Naples.

 

The public is invited to attend and will have the opportunity to provide comments regarding the proposed budgets.

 

Copies of the proposed 2025-2026 budget and the final amended 2024-2025 budget have been available for public inspection since April 25, at the Business Administrator’s Office, 826 S. 1500 East in Naples. The budgets were also posted on the district’s website on April 25.

 

Celebrations

Congratulations to the Uintah High School Boy’s Weightlifting Club on winning their second consecutive state championship earlier this month. Bronson Merrill (114lbs), Jaycob Atwood (123 lbs) and Michael Renfro (132lbs) each earned individual state titles in their respective weight classes. Taydin Atwood (114 lbs), Kingston Bullock (132 lbs), Dace O’Bagy (198 lbs), and Bodey Simmons (220 lbs) finished in second place in their classifications; and Tyler Remington (148 lbs) and Ammon McKee (181 lbs) finished third.

 

All the girls who attended the state lifting championship placed as well. Jakailei Lujan (114 lbs) and Brooklyn Zufelt (123 lbs) earned individual state championships in their respective classifications. Brynlee Gardiner (114 lbs) and Chloe Glines (148 lbs) both finished third. Bella Morrill (148 lbs) also finished third in the Olympic division.

 

Weekend Events

Uintah High Boys Tennis players Daron Ross, Isaac Abrams, Caleb Birchell, Noah Lance and Josh Scow will play in Day 2 of the 4A State Tournament today at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. Play gets underway at 9 a.m., with a chance to advance to Day 3 of the tournament on the line.

 

The Uintah High Track and Field Team is competing today at the 4A State Meet at Brigham Young University in Provo. The meet will run all day today and all day tomorrow at the Clarence F. Robinson Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

 

In the 4A Boys Track and Field competition, David Anderson, Zander Batty, Cris Berson, Jackson Checketts, Treysen Colmenares, Grant Gale, Ian Gardner, Heston Gowen, Caleb Hadlock, Jaron Heaton, Cale Manwaring, Gideon Owen, Kade Richens, Austyn Stratz and Jackson Wright have qualified to represent Uintah.

 

In the 4A Girls Track and Field competition, Alexis Anderson, Nora Averett, Emily Bake, Aydrian Bell, Paisley Bell, Ashlynn Dillman, Chloe Glines, Aliysa Hunting, Bailey John, Angela Jolley, Auklynd Jones, Lauren Labrum, Izzie Lawson, Lizzie Peden and Joy Spencer have qualified to represent Uintah.
