The Uintah School Board will hold a regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday, May 14, at the district office in Naples. The work session begins at 4 p.m., with the business meeting to follow at 6 p.m.
Agendas for both meetings will be posted in BoardDocs under the School Board tab on the district website. The district intends to stream both meetings live on its YouTube channel. A link will also be provided in advance for those who wish to submit comments to the school board.
UMS/VMS One-Act Plays
Students from Uintah Middle School and Vernal Middle School will present an evening of one-act plays tonight and tomorrow night in the UMS Auditorium. The two plays are āTen Reasons You Should Have Stayed Home Sick Todayā and āEveryone Gets Abducted by Aliens.ā Tickets are $3 per person at the door. Children 5 and under get in free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7 p.m.
UHS Choir Concert
The Uintah High Choir program will hold its final concert of the school year on Tuesday, May 13, beginning at 7 p.m. in the UHS Auditorium. Admission is FREE. The concert will be streamed live on the Uintah High Choir Facebook page for those who cannot attend in person.
UHS Band & Orchestra Concert
The Uintah High Band and Orchestra program will hold its final concert of the school year on Thursday, May 15, in the UHS Auditorium. Admission is FREE. Performances by the Concert Band, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble will begin at 7 p.m. The UHS Jazz Band, Pandemonium, will take the stage at 8 p.m. The performances will be streamed live on the Uintah Bands Facebook page for those who cannot attend in person.
AVEC & UHS Graduations
Ashley Valley Education Center will hold its drive-in graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 on Thursday, May 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Graduation will be held in the AVEC parking lot.
Uintah High School will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 at Coach Belcher Stadium on Friday, May 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Graduates need to be at the Uintah Training Center (UTC) at 4:30 p.m. to begin lining up for the processional to the stadium.
Utah Sun Bucks Program
The Utah Sun Bucks program is getting ready to start for the summer. Sun Bucks, also called Summer EBT, can help families buy food during the summer when schools are closed. Families get $120 per eligible school-age child.
Any Utah child in grades K-12 for the 2024-25 school year who currently receives free or reduced-price meals will automatically receive this benefit. No application is needed.

USD Budget Hearing
The Uintah School District will hold a public hearing for the purpose of adopting the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year and the final amended budget for the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday, June 4. The public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the district office, located at 826 S. 1500 East in Naples.
The public is invited to attend and will have the opportunity to provide comments regarding the proposed budgets.
Copies of the proposed 2025-2026 budget and the final amended 2024-2025 budget have been available for public inspection since April 25, at the Business Administratorās Office, 826 S. 1500 East in Naples. The budgets were also posted on the districtās website on April 25.
Celebrations
The district held its annual Employee Appreciation Banquet on May 1. During the banquet, Ashley Elementary teacher MarKay Anderson was honored as the districtās Teacher of the Year. Cynthia Shiner from the Transportation Department was also honored as the districtās Classified Employee of the Year. Uintah High student Olivia Pena was recognized as well for creating the artwork that was selected for the cover of the banquetās program and invitation.

Congratulations to Uintah School District bus driver Becky Valdez! Last weekend, she was named Outstanding Education Support Professional of the Year in Transportation by the Utah School Employees Association. Valdez has been a bus driver for the district since December 2007 and has been honored in the past as the district's Classified Employee of the Year.

The Uintah High Baseball Team plays Game 2 of its best-of-three playoff series with Snow Canyon High today at noon in St. George. The Warriors have a 1-0 lead in the series. The Uintah High Softball Team plays Game 2 of its best-of-three playoff series with Hurricane High today at 1 p.m. in Vernal. The Tigers have a 1-0 lead in the series. Uintah High Boys Soccer is hosting Payson High today at Coach Belcher Stadium in the first round of the 4A state playoffs. The game kicks off at 4 p.m. It will be streamed live on the Uintah High Hudl Fan site.
