This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Nov. 6, 2020The Uintah School District and the TriCounty Health Department have finalized a protocol that allows our school nurses to administer free, optional COVID-19 rapid tests to asymptomatic individuals who have had a mask-on-mask exposure to novel coronavirus in a school setting.

Testing will be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Parents/guardians of students eligible for free, optional testing will be notified by their student’s school. They will also receive an email with the date and time for their testing appointment and a consent form. District employees who are eligible for free, optional testing will also be notified by phone and by email. Testing will be conducted by school nurses at the TriCounty Health Department office in Vernal, 133 S. 500 East.

Parent/guardian consent is required before a minor can be tested. Individuals who test negative can return to school immediately. Individuals who choose not to participate in free, optional testing may return to school after their full 14-day quarantine period, so long as they do not have symptoms associated with COVID-19.

For safety reasons individuals who have had a low-risk (mask-on-mask, in school) exposure and become symptomatic will be referred to their healthcare provider for testing instead of being tested by district nurses at TriCounty Health.

Again, this protocol applies only to district students and employees who have a low-risk (mask-on-mask, in school) exposure to the virus.

While the number of positive cases in our schools has decreased this week, there are currently more than 230 individuals quarantined district-wide due to contact with a positive case either in school or in the community. District leadership continues to closely evaluate all COVID-related information as it pertains to the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.

The Uintah School Board will hold a regularly scheduled work session on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m., followed by a regularly scheduled business meeting at 6 p.m. The meetings will be held in the auditorium at Vernal Middle School and streamed live on YouTube at https://youtu.be/9tpZR25DdLk.

Uintah Middle School will host a special guest on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. Dr. Christy Kane promises parents/guardians, educators, and community members a fun and informative evening as she guides them through the neurological impacts of trauma. Then she’ll provide evidence-based tools that can be used to help reduce the rates of anxiety, stress, depression, suicide and conflict in our schools, homes, and community. Dr. Kane’s presentation will also be streamed on the district’s YouTube channel. A link will be provided the week of the presentation.

Finally, the district continues to accept applications for the K-12 Broadband Grant it received from the state. If your family needs help with broadband access at home so your student can participate in blended learning, please pick up an application from the district office, or from one of our schools.
