Weekly District Update

We’re one-third of the way through the school year! Second trimester begins Monday. There is no school next Wednesday, Thursday or Friday due to Thanksgiving break. The district office will be closed next Thursday and Friday for the holiday. There won’t be a Weekly District Update published next week.

Maeser Cubs Food Drive
Maeser Elementary recently completed a food drive. On Monday, the school’s Student Council delivered more than 3,100 pounds of food donated by students, staff, and families to the Ashley Valley Food Pantry. Great job, Cubs!

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
Students at Ashley Elementary School had the opportunity to participate in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Monday. On Nov. 14, 1960, first-grader Ruby Bridges became the first African American child to attend all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans desegregation crisis. In advance of Monday's walk, students watched a 6-minute animated video about Ruby Bridges' story so they could better understand the meaning behind Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. Thanks to Ashley Elementary teacher Katie Flaniken for organizing this event!

Ashley Explorers Decorate Ornaments
Students at Ashley Elementary School created handmade ornaments for Zions Bank's 50th annual Lights On holiday celebration. The ornaments will be displayed on a Christmas tree in a street-level window at the Zions Bank Building in downtown Salt Lake City. The students were asked to create a variety of designs that represent the Uintah Basin. They worked on the project in Kari Zeller's art class.

Zions Bank provided $200 for supplies to make the ornaments, and Vernal branch manager Adrion Walker delivered a $500 donation today to Ashley Elementary to thank the students for their creativity. Great job, Explorers!
