This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Sept. 12, 2022Welcome to the first Weekly District Update of the 2022-23 school year. The update is usually released on Fridays when school is in session. This one is being released on a Monday because we want to remind everyone about the return of the in-person learning option for students.

Beginning this Friday, Sept. 16, parents/guardians have the option to send their student to school for in-person instruction. Students may also complete their work online on Fridays. This is the same schedule the district used during the 2021-2022 school year.

The district is collecting data about the effectiveness of its Friday plan. As part of this process, it is anticipated that the district will survey parents/guardians, students, and district employees to gain input about the current Friday plan.

Once all the data and survey results are compiled, which could take a month or two to complete, the information will be presented to the Uintah School Board in an open meeting. The board will decide whether to continue with the current Friday plan, modify the current plan, or adopt a different plan.

School Foods Information
Uintah School District has received a waiver from the state that will allow the district to offer grab-n-go meals on Fridays this year with specific conditions.

Beginning this Friday, Sept. 16, school breakfast will be offered to kids on Fridays when they arrive at school, just like any other school day. Students who are learning in-person on Fridays will be able to take a grab-n-go lunch home, just like they did on Fridays last year.

Curbside meals will be available only from Ashley Elementary for all USD student who are enrolled in a “brick and mortar school” but have chosen to learn virtually on Friday. Grab-n-go breakfast will be offered at Ashley Elementary from 8:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and grab-n-go lunch will be offered from 11 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Students will be charged according to their free, reduced, or full pay meal status.

Kids who are not enrolled in a "brick and mortar school," which includes Uintah Online, can purchase breakfast for $2.55 and lunch for $4.50. Adults can also purchase a meal for the same price.

Those who want a grab-n-go meal should fill out this order form. This will ensure that the kitchen staff prepares enough grab-n-go meals each Friday while helping to eliminate food waste.

To apply for free or reduced-price meals, please visit https://www.uintah.net/departments/foods and scroll down to the FORMS section.

School Board Meetings on Wednesday
The Uintah School Board will hold a regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the board room on the second floor of the district office in Naples. The work session is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The business meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

To view the agendas for both meetings, visit www.uintah.net, click on the School Board tab, then select BoardDocs.

The meeting will be live streamed on the district’s YouTube channel. Public input may be provided online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NTQYCVT.

Celebrations
Uintah School District Teacher of the Year Christine Whetton was honored this past week along with other outstanding educators from school districts around the state at the annual Utah Teacher of the Year awards banquet. Whetton and the other educators were individually recognized during the banquet and presented with a crystal award.

State Schools Superintendent Sydnee Dickson announced Chad Warnick – an agriculture, biology, leadership, and communications teacher at the Delta Technical Center in the Millard School District – as 2023 Utah Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to Mr. Warnick!

Whetton teaches P.E. at Uintah Middle School. She was accompanied at the awards banquet by her mother, her sister, and UMS Principal Sharon Shipton. “Chris and I rode out to the banquet together and it was great to get to know her better,” Shipton said. “It was really nice that her mom got to see her be honored for her work with students.”

Congratulations to Ms. Whetton on the recognition and thank you for representing our district so well!

Before last Friday night's football game, Uintah High teacher and coach Phillip Keddy was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Keddy graduated from UHS in 2005. He is a two-time state and region champion wrestler with a career high school record of 146-28. He also lettered three times in football, earning all-region honors twice, and was a National Honor Society member.

After high school Keddy attended the University of Iowa, where he had a career record of 102-42, was a three-time All-American, a four-time Big 10 place winner and an NCAA qualifier.
