During its business meeting, the board celebrated the district’s Students of the Month for October: Marlee Stayner (Ashley Elementary), Kyler Price (Davis Elementary), Exton Thacker (Discovery Elementary), Alejandra Salguero (Eagle View Elementary), Oakland Jim (Lapoint Elementary), Peter Kralicek (Maeser Elementary), Aspen Johnson (Naples Elementary), Kate Jolley (Uintah Middle School), Daicie Downing (Vernal Middle School), Caleb McKee (Uintah High School), and Marzlaeus Littlegeorge (Ashley Valley Education Center). Congratulations to these outstanding students and to everyone who supports them in education and in life!

There will be no face-to-face instruction option for K-8 students this Friday, Oct. 22. All K-8 students will attend classes remotely. There is no change to the high school's Friday schedule.

Beginning Nov. 1, all children 18 and under or their parent/guardian can pick up free curbside meals at Ashley Elementary School only. The district has decided to consolidate this service to one location due to the low level of participation. Free curbside breakfast will be available at Ashley Elementary from 8:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. Free curbside lunch will be available at Ashley Elementary from 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Friday.

Uintah Middle School held its annual Hawk-a-thon on Oct. 7. The mini triathlon included swim, bike and run legs that started at the rec center and ended at UMS. The winners were: Isabelle Lawson and Shane Stringham (6th grade); Sadie Rhoades and Kyle Hadlock (7th grade); and Eliza Averett and Carter Rimmasch (8th grade). Bridger Taylor and Alyssa Winters received the Grateful Heart Award for thanking course volunteers; Summer Newby received the Courteous Competitor Award for waiting while a friend’s bike tire was pumped up; Mailey Rimmasch received the Perfect Pivot Award for her perfect turns in the pool; Kenzie Morris received the Perseverance Award for "sticking with it with style;" Cooper Cook received the Smiles All the Way Award for smiling throughout the race; Jason Wiley received the Tigger Award for endless enthusiasm, excitement and energy; and Kyle Rimmasch received the Mr. Kindness Award for waiting for the last runners and encouraging them along to the finish line. Congratulations to these awesome UMS Hawks!

Congratulations also go out to Uintah High cross country runners Reagan Angus, Kate Slaugh and Rain Tanner. They qualified this past week for the 5A State Cross Country Race, which is set for Oct. 27 at the Rose Park Sports Complex.

Finally, congratulations to the eight Uintah High student-athletes who earned Academic All-State honors for the fall sports season from the Utah High School Activities Association. The eight recipients are Ashlyn Meier (girls tennis); Brynli Mansfield (volleyball); Ellie Hartman (girls soccer); Laura Anderson (girls cross country); Caleb McKee (boys cross country); and Carson Coltharp, Dustin Rhoades, and Easton Hacking (football).
