This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Feb. 26, 2021We’ve reached the end of the second trimester! There will be no school Monday for students. It is a professional development day for teachers and staff. Free grab-n-go meals will not be served Monday. Third trimester classes begin Tuesday.

Because Uintah County is now considered a moderate COVID-19 transmission area, Superintendent Rick Woodford has authorized the return of volunteers to our schools. Anyone interested in volunteering must contact the school principal for details about their building’s risk mitigation protocols and expectations. We are grateful to all our volunteers and we are thrilled to welcome them back into the schools.

The state of Utah has made some modifications to its COVID-19 School Manual. One change involves the Test to Play protocol used for students involved in extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, theatre, etc.) Moving forward, positive test results from the Test to Play protocol won't count toward the school outbreak threshold.

The state has also said that extracurricular activities that are held one time, like a school dance, are included in the Test to Play requirements. This means participants of a one-time extracurricular activity are required to get tested for COVID-19 within two days of the event. With this change in mind, Uintah High is planning to hold prom on Saturday, April 17. The school will provide UHS students and parents with additional details about prom in the coming days.

A summary of the state’s COVID-19 School Manual can be found here: https://coronavirus-download.utah.gov/School/COVID-19_School_Manual_Summary.pdf .

The Uintah High Boys Wrestling Team earned its first state championship in 22 years last weekend in Richfield. The Utes had five boys earn individual state titles: Clayson Mele (120), Brady Merkley (132), Josh Holmes (138), Austin Richens (170), and Will Price (182). The Uintah High Girls Wrestling Team took five wrestlers to Richfield and placed 4th in Utah’s first-ever girls state championship tournament. Chanley Green (115) won an individual state title. Congratulations to these outstanding student-athletes and their coaches!

Vernal Middle School music students performed Wednesday night. For the first time in its history, the school's Intermediate Band was one of 30 bands chosen to participate in this year's State Junior High Band Festival. The school's Mixed Choir students have also had the privilege of working with professor Larry Martin from Utah State University Eastern, who commended them for their stellar preparation of their music.

A recording of the performances can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?fbclid=IwAR13sJgp3YibioGKhI1Z2WKn5Sx4tQ9hk_-yGhlPhH48bziDnEvW6dyLUgs&v=YMdLb51sXf8&feature=youtu.be . The choir is the first group to take the stage at about the 24-minute mark of the recording.

Uintah Middle School is using the Lexia PowerUp Literacy program with great success to help improve student proficiency in grammar, word study, and reading comprehension. All students complete PowerUp units, meet with teachers, and set weekly goals in their assigned advisory class. Teacher teams monitor student growth and distribute buttons to students who have “leveled up.” The school has two ways for students to earn and participate in our PowerUp Rewards Program. You can read more about that on the district’s website: https://www.uintah.net/news/what_s_new/u_m_s_hawks_read__lead_and_succeed .
