Weekly District Update - Dec. 11, 2020

This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Dec. 11, 2020As a result of the decline in positive COVID-19 cases at Uintah High School, the school will return to its normal attendance procedures on Monday, Dec. 14. Students who choose to stay home will be marked absent. Students who are sick or quarantined due to COVID-19 will have their attendance code modified to a “J-Code" by the school's Attendance Office.

The return to normal attendance procedures at Uintah High comes after a two-week period where families had the option to choose in-person or online learning for their high school students.

At the time this option was announced on Nov. 30, we had 14 active COVID-19 at Uintah High, one away from having to move entirely to online instruction based on state guidelines. Since that time, the number of positive cases at Uintah High has steadily declined. Unless we get additional positive cases, our active case count at UHS will drop from nine to eight today. Another seven active cases will drop off the high school's count on Monday.

This is excellent news!

On Wednesday, however, the district announced that it had to transition Eagle View Elementary School's 7th grade students to online learning for two weeks. This precautionary move was made after a third individual associated with the 7th grade at Eagle View tested positive for COVID-19 in less than 14 days.

The move to online learning affects about 30 students. It is anticipated that they will return to in-person instruction when classes resume on Jan. 4, after Christmas break.

The district's decision to transition Eagle View's 7th graders to online learning follows the existing state guidelines for addressing an outbreak in a classroom. Based on contact tracing, the district believes the outbreak is contained to the 7th grade.

As you may have heard, we are anticipating some big changes that could ease the Utah Department of Health’s quarantine procedures for schools. Although we don’t know for certain what these changes will be, it is anticipated that Gov. Gary Herbert will announce them within the next week and the changes would go into effect on Jan. 4.

The district will provide updated information when any changes are formally announced.

Please do your part to help us keep our all schools open for in-person attendance. If you feel sick, are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test or have been told to quarantine due to exposure to a positive case, please stay home.

As a reminder, starting Monday free grab-n-go meals will no longer be available for pickup from Uintah High School, Uintah Middle School or Vernal Middle School. All children age 18 and under can continue to pick up grab-n-go breakfast and lunch from any Uintah School District elementary school at the times listed on the district website.

To sign up for free grab-n-go meals visit www.bit.ly/USD_GrabnGoForm_V2.
