This is the image for the news article titled Weekly District Update - Dec. 4, 2020We received some good news Thursday from the Utah Department of Health and TriCounty Health Department. The recommended 14-day quarantine period for anyone exposed to COVID-19 has been reduced, based on new guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Instead of the 14-day quarantine, there are now two options: end quarantine after 10 days if no symptoms are reported OR end quarantine after seven days if an individual tests negative and reports no symptoms. Household contacts are NOT eligible for the 7-day test and return option.

Our district will continue to provide free rapid tests on Day 7 of quarantine ONLY for individuals exposed in school, regardless of whether their exposure was considered low risk or high risk. Individuals must be asymptomatic to be tested by district nurses. Those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should be tested by their healthcare provider.

Individuals exposed outside of school are responsible for obtaining a test from a clinic, testing center, or healthcare provider if they wish to return to school on Day 7 with a negative test. They must present proof of a negative test result to return.

Please continue to do your part to help us keep our schools open for in-person attendance. If you feel sick, are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test or have been told to quarantine due to exposure to a positive case, please stay home.

The Uintah School Board will hold its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the auditorium at Vernal Middle School. The work session will begin at 4 p.m. The business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. The agendas for the meetings are available at https://go.boarddocs.com/ut/uintah/Board.nsf/Public.

These meetings will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/lwHowEvyvew. Public input may be provided at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q8JSS33.

Effective Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, free grab-n-go meals will no longer be available for pickup from Uintah High School, Uintah Middle School or Vernal Middle School due to consistently low levels of participation. For curbside grab-n-go meals the district has been serving on average 11 breakfasts and eight lunches at VMS, no breakfasts and one lunch at UMS, and no breakfasts and six lunches at UHS.

All children age 18 and under can continue to pick up grab-n-go breakfast and lunch from any Uintah School District elementary school at the times listed on the district website. To sign up for meals visit bit.ly/USD_GrabnGoForm_V2.

Finally, the annual Shanon Johnson Classic is underway at Uintah High School. The Lady Utes varsity basketball team plays the Carbon Dinos on Friday at 7:15 p.m. and the Pine View Panthers on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Spectators are limited to two per athlete, but Uintah High will livestream all games played in the main gym thanks to their amazing student broadcasting class and their partnership with V6 Media on www.channelv6.com/sports/, so please tune in.

Please have a safe, enjoyable weekend!
