School Board Highlights

from the May 6, 2008 Business meeting of the Uintah School District Board of Education

Recognition of Sterling Scholars:  Of the 13 sterling scholar candidates, 10 placed at region which was held April 22, 2008. Kay Baker, Sterling Scholar Advisor, shared the success of the sterling scholars and praised them for their representation of Uintah High School.  Each was then congratulated by members of the School Board.

 

Recognition of LeeAnn Baker – VFW Teacher of the Year:  Earlier this year LeeAnn Baker was nominated by her Principal, Debbie Chatham, for the VFW National Citizenship Educator of the Year.  This award is given to one elementary teacher, one middle school teacher, and one high school teacher in the State of Utah each year.  It was with pleasure that Principal Chatham announced that LeeAnn had been chosen by the Veterans of Foreign War as the Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Congratulations were extended to Mrs. Baker by School Board members and District Administration.

 

Recognition of Keshia Chamberlain – Outgoing Student Board Representative:  President Rodney Anderson thanked Keshia Chamberlain for representing Uintah High School students as the Student Board Representative this year.  Keshia kept the Board apprised of student successes and activities.  The Board wished Keshia well in her future endeavors.

 

Approval of Extended Sunset Date for Transportation Benefits:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to approve a one year extension for the benefit package offered to bus drivers.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of School Trust Land Plans:  A motion was made by Shane Frost to approve the School Trust Land Plans from Davis Elementary, Discovery Elementary, and Vernal Middle School.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Monday Late Start at Uintah High School for School Year 2008-2009:  A motion was made by Shane Frost to approve the Monday late start time plan as presented by Uintah High School that on Monday’s during the 2008-2009 school year.  First period for students will begin at 8:10 a.m.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Policy 008.1000 Adult Education/GED Program:  (1st & 2nd Reading)  A motion was made by Shane Frost to approve Policy 008.1000 as presented on first and second reading.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Proposed Changes to Policy 004.0520 Travel Expense/Reimbursement Addendum:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe directing language added to Policy 004.0520 that the Board of Education will not need to approve addendum changes as long as amounts listed within the policy are within State of Utah travel reimbursement amounts.  The amended policy will be presented for approval during the May 20, 2008 business meeting.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Asphalt Repair Project Bid:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to award the bid for asphalt repair projects to Big Red Asphalt, and to exceed the capital outlay budget amount of $125,000 to complete all of the projects which were bid.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Policy 001.0300 Policies and Procedures for Indian Education:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to approve Policy 001.0300 as presented.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.
