School Board Highlights

from the May 20, 2008 business meeting of the Uintah School District Board of Education

 

 

Musical Presentation by 4th Grade Ashley Elementary Students:  Board members and patrons were privileged to hear a rendition of 29 Counties performed by the 4th grade students of Markay Anderson and Cindy Brown from Ashley Elementary.  On behalf of the Board of Education, thank you Ashley Elementary for sharing the talent of the students with the Board throughout this past school year.

 

Recognition of Todd Elementary Volunteer:  Pamela Hansen, introduced and paid tribute to Margaret Davis, otherwise known by staff and students as “Grandma Margaret.”  Margaret has been a Grandparent Helper at Todd Elementary for the past eight years and this year was awarded the Silver Bowl award from the State of Utah Foster Grandparent Program.

 

Recognition of Maeser Elementary Volunteers:  In gratitude of their willingness to help students at Maeser Elementary, James and Shelly Stratton were honored as “Super Volunteers” by Elementary Kindergarten teacher, Jane Pierce.  Mr. and Mrs. Stratton have not only helped in their son’s classroom, but have volunteered to help all Maeser Kindergarten students with such things as reading, math, and even fine-tuning the alphabet.  Mrs. Stratton also serves on the PTA.

 

Approval of Tentative District Budget for 2008-2009:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe, seconded by Shane Frost, carrying unanimously, to approve the tentative budget for the 2008-2009 school year as follows:

Maintenance & Operation                $40,101,565

Student Activity Fund                        $1,085,095

Non K-12 Programs                         $2,557,299

Debt Service                                     $3,820,334

Capital Outlay

   (Including Construction Costs)        $33,862,600

TOTAL BUDGET                          $83,862,870

The Board of Education has, at this point, made no decision regarding property tax rates. 

 

Award of Stage Curtain Bid:  A motion was made by JoAnn Cowan to award the bid to replace stage curtains for several district schools to Huish’s in the amount of $52,605.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Revisions to Policy 004.0520 Travel Expense/Reimbursement Addendum:  A motion was made by Perry Taylor to approve the Addendum to Policy 004.0520 as presented on second reading.  JoAnn Cowan seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

 

Approval of Teacher/Student Foreign Exchange Proposal:  A motion was made by Perry Taylor to approve the request for Uintah High School students to participate in a two-week student exchange program with students from Ciscino High School, of Sicily, Italy.  JoAnn Cowan seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.
