School Board Highlights

From the October 9, 2007 meeting of the Uintah School District Board of Education

 

 

 

Recognition of Outstanding Employee at Todd Elementary:  Principal Debbie Chatham said of May Mountain, “You don’t get too many employees who care about the people and the children they are serving.”  May Mountain is the Art Specialist at Todd Elementary and was recognized as an outstanding employee from Todd Elementary.

 

School Progress & Goals Report:  Reporting to the Board of Education on school progress and goals were Principal Debbie Chatham from Todd Elementary and Principal Carol Parrish from Maeser Elementary.

 

School Start Times:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to table any changes to school start times until the Board of Education has had a chance to study more scenarios from Transportation regarding elementary start times.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Report on AYP for all SchoolsLeonard Sullivan gave a report to members of the Board of Education on a six-year CRT comparison of all schools in the Uintah School District.

 

Approval of the K-3 Reading Improvement Plan for Uintah School District:  A motion was made by Shane Frost to approve the Uintah School District 2007-2008 school year K-3 Reading Improvement Plan.  Perry Taylor seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Technology Expenditures:  A motion was made by Perry Taylor to approve the on-line testing purchases as presented by Kent Mansfield, Director of Technology.  Shane Frost seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Policy 005.4000 Entry Years Enhancement:   Structured Support for Level I Teachers:  (1st & 2nd Reading)  A motion was made by Shane Frost to approve on first and second reading Policy 005.4000 as presented.  Perry Taylor seconded the motion. Those in favor:  Scott Ruppe, Shane Frost, Perry Taylor, and Dr. Rodney Anderson.  Those opposed:  JoAnn Cowan; motion carried.

 

Update on Fall Enrollment/Growth:  Randy Upton reviewed with Board members a report he has created and uses to establish staffing at each school.  This report is based off from the October 1 enrollment count, which for this October 1st count shows an enrollment of 5948 students – an increase of 176 from the October 2006 count.

 

Motion to Support UBATC/USU Underpass:  A motion was made by Shane Frost to support the construction of an underpass between Uintah High School and the new UBATC/USU campus by granting an easement of Uintah School District property and providing funding for installation of a sidewalk and improvements to the sprinkling system on the Uintah High School property.  Perry Taylor seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.
