School Board Highlights

from the October 23, 2007 meeting of the Uintah School District Board of Education

 

 

Recognition of UHS Golf Team:  Board of Education members had the opportunity to congratulate and shake the hands of each of the members of the Uintah High School Golf team.  Board members also publicly recognized Coach Kent McCurdy and Lee Schulz for coaching this young team to a 3A State Championship.  Members of the team are: Matthew Gudac, Jake Bailey, Chase Hanberg, Blake Rollins, Stratton Schulz, and Alex Baldridge.

 

Naples Elementary School Goals:  Principal John Anderson presented a PowerPoint report on the educational progress of the students at Naples Elementary School, and the educational tools being used to help meet the goals set by the staff.

 

Transportation Issue:  The Uintah School District Board of Education issued a directive for District Office administration to meet with Uintah County Commissioners to discuss improvements and maintenance of county roads in order save the wear and tear of school district buses which have to travel down poorly maintained county roads.

 

Approval of Revisions to Policy 007.0235 Sexual Harassment – Of and By Students:  (1st & 2nd Reading)  A motion was made by Shane Frost to approve on first and second reading the revisions to Policy 007.0235 as presented.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Resolution Confirming the Sale and Authorizing the Issuance of $20,020,000 General Obligation School Building Bonds (Utah School Bond Guaranty Program), Series 2007 of the Board; and Providing for Related Matters:  It was thereupon moved by Perry Taylor, seconded by Shane Frost, carrying unanimously, that a Resolution confirming the sale and authorizing the issuance of $20,020,000 General Obligation School Building Bonds (Utah School Bond Guaranty Program), Series 2007 of the Board of Education of Uintah County School District, Uintah County, Utah; fixing the interest rates to be borne thereby; providing for the levy of taxes to pay principal of and interest on the Bonds; providing for the use of the proceeds thereof; making certain findings and covenants in connection therewith; providing for a system of registration therefore; ratifying actions heretofore taken; making certain presentations and covenants concerning maintenance of the tax-exempt status of interest thereon under the Federal Income Tax laws; authorizing the circulation of an official statement; approving the form and authorizing the execution of a continuing disclosure undertaking and providing for related matters.

 

Approval of Mineral Lease Acreage Contract:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe, seconded by Shane Frost, carrying unanimously, to approve the request by El Paso Oil and Gas to lease mineral acreage owned by Uintah School District.  The terms are as follows:

Gross Acres                     31.28

Net Acres                          7.82

Lease Bonus                    $100 per net Mineral Acre

Lease Primary Term        5 Years

Lease Royalty                  1/6th

 

Announcement of Board of Education Meeting, November 5, 2007 at West Middle School Cafeteria, to Discuss West Middle School Options:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe, amended by Perry Taylor, that the Uintah School District Board of Education will hold a public meeting November 5, 2007 at the West Middle School Cafeteria, beginning at 6:00 p.m., to discuss the following options for West Middle School:

1.             Reopen West Middle School as a Charter School;

2.             Replace all or most of the staff at West Middle School;

3.             Contract with an outside entity to manage the school;

4.             Reopen West Middle School as a Theme School;

5.             Hire a turn-around specialist or consulting group;

6.             Close West Middle School;

7.             Reconfigure the school;

8.             Discussion of consideration to remodel or rebuild a new school for Todd and/or West Middle School.

Shane Frost seconded the amendment and the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of District Facilities Priority List:  Tabled until November 13, 2007.
