School Board Highlights

Report on Vernal Junior High Bomb Threat:  Lynn Bigelow gave a report on the Vernal Junior High bomb threat of January 11, 2008.  Overall, the evacuation process went well.  However, there were a few areas of improvement which have been addressed and evaluated.

 

Approval of 2008-09 Vernal Area Elementary School Boundaries:  Tabled.

 

Approval of Change in Early Retirement:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to approve administration’s recommendation to take the qualifying years of service in Uintah School District down from 30 years to 27; all benefits remain the same as stated in the motion of January 8, 2008.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously. 

 

Approval of Service Vehicle for Transportation:  A motion was made by JoAnn Cowan to add the request for the purchase of a service vehicle for Transportation to the 2009 Fiscal Year Capital Outlay projects list.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Request for Approval of Lapoint Bus Garage:  Tabled.

 

Proposed Approval of New Policy 003.0900 Parent and Family Involvement:  Tabled.

 

School Start Times:  A motion was made by JoAnn Cowan for Transportation officials to develop school start/end time scenarios with elementary schools beginning earlier than secondary schools.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

School Funding Request:  A motion was made by JoAnn Cowan to set aside $10,000 of capital outlay funds for the 2008-2009 school year.  These funds will be available for access from the Uintah schools foundation to meet the needs of classroom funding proposals.  The business office will work with the foundation to establish the procedures to spend these funds.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.

 

Resolution Adopted by the Board of Education:  It was thereupon moved by JoAnn Cowan, seconded by Shane Frost, carrying unanimously, that a Resolution of the Board of Education of Uintah County School District, Uintah County, Utah, directing the Board of Trustees of the Municipal Building Authority of Uintah County School District, Uintah County, Utah to issue its lease revenue refunding bonds; and providing for related matters.

 

Personnel:  The following individuals were approved for appointment by the Uintah School District Board of Education: 

Amber Shipman, Teacher, Lapoint, for remainder of 07-08 school year

Danika Foley, Teaching Assistant, Davis

Sandra Jarman, Preschool Teaching Assistant, West Side

Cyndi Valentine, Reading Tutor, Ashley

Carly Hendrickson, Teacher, Davis

 

Resignation of Personnel:  Letters of resignation have been received from the following personnel:

Richard Simmons, Transportation – effective Jan. 16, 2008
